Darius Lumwira is a Malawian drummer, sound engineer, music teacher, and instrument repairer based at Music Crossroads (Area 23, Lilongwe). In 2018–2019 he spent a year in Brazil on the MOVE exchange—studying Brazilian culture and music while teaching Malawian rhythms and songs—and co-founded the Guri International Band, performing in cities including São José and Marília. Back home, he formed Mvula Band (26 August 2019), known for live Manganje, pop, Afro-pop and Afro-jazz. Mvula—“Rain” in Chichewa—aims to shift the room’s mood the way rain changes the air. The band has worked with Music Crossroads Malawi, Norwegian collaborator Ingrid Lingaas Fossum, Casino Marina, and performed at the EU–AU–Malawi Government youth employment conference (“A Proactive Youth for Malawi’s Sustainable Future”).
