Born Joseph Mbewe in Lilongwe, Malawi, the 20-year-old artist known as Xi brings a profound depth to his multi-genre craft. His musical journey began remarkably early; though his official career kicked off in 2022, Xi started writing songs at just eight years old, inspired by his late sister, a talented poet, and his singing sister. This foundation instilled in him a raw, authentic approach, with his music often serving as a direct reflection of his personal experiences and challenges. Primarily a rapper, Xi also seamlessly integrates his skills as a singer and songwriter, creating narratives that resonate deeply. His undeniable talent was evident on the Mzuni 2024 UMP Cypher, solidifying his presence in the Malawian hip-hop scene and earning him recognition, including the article "From the UMP Cypher to the World: Xi Coming in Hot."
