Released in 2008, “Gamba” is the iconic single that cemented Phyzix as one of Malawi’s most important hip hop artists following the success of “Cholapitsa.” Recorded while Phyzix was 21 years old and in his second year at Mzuzu University, the song proved that his earlier breakthrough was not a fluke but the arrival of a unique and lasting talent. Produced by KoNd-1 and recorded, mixed and mastered by GD of Daredevilz, “Gamba” stood out for its eerie atmosphere, vivid storytelling and cinematic lyricism. The record strongly showcased Phyzix’s creative writing abilities and introduced the “Gamba” identity — an alter ego that became deeply connected to his brand and legacy, much like Slim Shady to Eminem. To this day, “Gamba” remains one of the most recognizable names associated with Phyzix and a defining moment in Malawian hip hop history.
